Auto Research Center
Mooresville, NC
A design build project consisting of a state of the art Auto Research Center. This facility, partnered by Gilbert and Cort Architectural to design and build, is used to test NASCAR, IndyCar, and SportsCar chassis. It is supported on caissons drilled down 95 feet to bedrock to eliminate vibration in the testing equipment. The 7-post rig wheel rams and actuators apply forces to the suspension of the vehicle to simulate braking, acceleration, and cornering as well as downforce generated at full scale speeds. The building also includes a laser photogrametric scanner used to create 40% and 50% scale bodies for aerodynamic testing in the adjacent wind tunnel. This building has a barrel vault roof making it as aesthetically attractive as it is functionally superior.
The ARC-Mooresville, NC 7-post rig is commerically available to all professional race teams.
